A local author and artist recently opened a new gift shop.

Mariam Moyer, author of “At the Head of the Holler” and “Out at the Forks” and owner of Design ‘De Sign in Leburn, announced that she has now opened a gift shop called Simple Treasures at 4589 Possum Trot Rd. in Leburn.

The business, located about four miles east of the Hindman junction, offers Moyer’s books and artwork, as well as handmade pieced table runners, throw pillows, wood-burned plaques, lamps, aprons and other items she creates. She also sells license plates she paints with various sayings, school names and mascots.

“She specializes in personalizing items with her vinyls or paints,” a press release said. “She can make matching décor of curtains, lamp shades, table runners, pillow covers, etc. that help in decorating your home. You may bring in an old chair, table or bed and she will be happy to strip the old varnish or paint and add new luster to the piece, simply making it a treasure.”

The gift shop is open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and it is also available by appointment. Moyer also offers space for small groups to have tea parties during the hours the business is not open.
