Betsy Layne  at Raceland

Notes: Betsy Layne is slated to visit Raceland for a game, which will serve as a Class A District 6 opener for each high school football team.

The Bobcats were idle in Week 7 of the 2019 high school football season. Betsy Layne will enter the upcoming matchup looking to pull off an upset win and end a three-game losing skid. The Bobcats are 2-4 overall.

Sophomore quarterback Chase Mims leads the Bobcats. Through six games, Mims has completed 61 of 118 passes for 967 yards and eight touchdowns. Mims has thrown five interceptions.

Dalton Hall, Chase Hamilton, Nicholas Howell and Paul Hall have emerged as reliable receivers for the Bobcats.  

As a team, Betsy Layne has rushed 182 times for 1,116 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Austin Tackett leads Betsy Layne on the ground. Tackett has rushed 74 times for 556 yards and six touchdowns.

Mims ranks as Betsy Layne’s second-leading rusher. The Betsy Layne quarterback has rushed 54 times for 248 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, Marcus Hall leads Betsy Layne with a team-high 50 tackles.

Raceland is 3-3 overall. However, rival Ashland blanked the Rams 26-0 in Week 7.

Raceland has managed to outscore its first six opponents in the 2019 season 121-115.

Sophomore quarterback Connor Hughes leads the Rams. Hughes has completed 40 of 72 passes for 536 yards and eight touchdowns while throwing three interceptions.

Five different passers have combined to complete 65 of 110 passes for 948 yards and 10 touchdowns with six interceptions for the Rams.

As a team, Raceland has rushed 164 times for 619 yards and five touchdowns.

Ethan Cox leads Raceland in rushing. Cox has rushed 24 times for 155 yards and one touchdown. The Rams’ second-leading receiver, Cox has hauled in 23 receptions for 320 yards and six touchdowns.

Gunnur Lewis leads Raceland in receiving. Lewis has hauled in 20 receptions for 393 yards and six touchdowns.

Along with leading Raceland in receiving, Lewis paces the Rams defensively. Lewis has recorded a team-high 52 tackles for the Rams.

Betsy Layne and Raceland did not meet during the 2018 high school football season.

Kickoff for the Betsy Layne-Raceland game is set for 7:30 p.m.

Who 2 Watch: For Betsy Layne, junior running back Austin Tackett.

The Bobcats’ leading rusher, Tackett is averaging one touchdown per game. He’ll need to produce on the ground often for Betsy Layne to push host Raceland

For Raceland, sophomore quarterback Connor Hughes.

One of the top young athletes in Class A, Hughes has shown improvement throughout the 2019 high school football season. Hughes and his teammates will be looking to shake off a shutout loss to rival Ashland when Betsy Layne visits.
