Prestonsburg shut out rival Johnson Central 6-0 in the 57th District Boys’ Soccer Tournament title game at Eagle Field on Thursday. The victory allowed Prestonsburg to claim its first district championship.
With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 16-2-2.
Johnson Central dropped to 7-8-2 with the loss.
Both Prestonsburg and Johnson Central advanced to the 15th Region Boys’ Soccer Tournament.
Grant Justice (two goals, one assist), Preston Crase (one goal, one assist), Isaiah Collins (one goal), Dylan Moore (one goal, one assist) and Matt Burchett (one goal, two assists) combined to lead the Blackcats offensively.
Goalkeeper Jacob Martin paced Prestonsburg defensively, recording a shutout.
“I’m so proud of our team,” Prestonsburg coach Brad Burchett commented, following the Blackcats’ triumph. “This is the first 57th District championship for the Prestonsburg boys’ soccer program, so it was a big deal to them to get that win. It was a total team effort.”
Prestonsburg was facing Belfry in the opening round of the 15th Region Boys’ Soccer Tournament at StoneCrest on Tuesday. Results from the Prestonsburg-Belfry boys’ soccer match were unavailable at press time.
