Prestonsburg dominated visiting East Ridge in a Class 2A, District 8 football opener on Friday night, winning 54-8 at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium.
With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in Class 2A District 8.
East Ridge dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the district with the loss.
Quarterback Brayden Slone and running back Carter Akers combined to lead Prestonsburg to the district win. Slone completed three of six pass attempts for 80 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Slone rushed four times for 102 yards and three touchdowns. In another productive rushing effort, Akers took five carries for 113 yards and one touchdown.
Samuel Kelly and Eric Armstrong added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Blackcats.
Prestonsburg excelled on the ground, rushing 26 times for 339 yards and six touchdowns.
Chipping in offensivly for Prestonsburg, Reece Hamilton passed for one touchdown.
As part of Prestonsburg’s offensive effort, John Rose and Adam Blair hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece. In addition to Rose and Blair, Owen Greene hauled in one reception.
Braxton Collins paced Prestonsburg on the defensive side, recording 12 tackles.
Prestonsburg is scheduled to visit reigning champion Shelby Valley for another Class 2A District 8 game on Thursday.
