PRESTONSBURG — Prestonsburg couldn’’t stop Lawrenc County’s Baden Gillispie in its home opener. Gillispie, the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback, rushed four times for 227 yards and four touchdowns to lead Lawrence County over Prestonsburg 42-12 in a high school football game at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium on Friday night.
Prestonsburg dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
With the win, Lawrence County evened its record to 1-1.
The Blackcats were forced to play from behind throughout the early-season high school football game.
Lawrence County set the tone early. The Bulldogs distanced themselves shortly after the opening kickoff, outscoring the Blackcats 21-0 in the first quarter.
With his team trailing 42-0, Prestonsburg quarterback Brayden Slone scored from eight yards out with 6:26 remaining in the first half.
Lawrence County, which dropped its season opener to Paintsville in Louisa, led 42-6 at halftime.
Slone added Prestonsburg’s other touchdown on a five-yard scoring run with 7:15 left in the game.
Lawrence County piled up 384 yards of total offense. Blue Fletcher (four carries for 52 yards), Trevor Young (seven carries for 33 yards), Brody Cantrell (three carries for 32 yards), Abner Collinsworth (four carries for 22 yards), Brandon Fitch (two carries for seven yards) and Mason Preston (three carries for two yards) helped to lead the Bulldogs on the ground.
Prestonsburg was held to 194 yards of total offense in its home opener.
