Bobcats beat East Ridge

Betsy Layne’s Chase Hamilton goes airborne to haul in a catch against East Ridge last Friday night. The Bobcats cruised to a 46-24 win. It was Betsy Layne’s second straight win of the season. Betsy Layne (2-1) is scheduled to host Magoffin County Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

LICK CREEK — Betsy Layne notched its second straight win in the 2019 high school football season on Friday night, upending host East Ridge 46-24.

With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 2-1.

East Ridge dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

Sophomore quarterback Chase Mims led Betsy Layne to its latest victory. Through the air, Mims completed 11 of 16 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Mims rushed nine times for 66 yards and three TDs.

Betsy Layne thrived on the ground, rushing 50 times for 351 yards and five TDs. Four different Betsy Layne players rushed for positive yardage. Leading the Bobcats on the ground, Chase Hamilton rushed 25 times for 183 yards and one touchdown. Betsy Layne used a productive rushing tandem to beat East Ridge. Austin Tackett ranked as Betsy Layne’s second-leading rusher, finishing with 100 yards and one TD via 15 carries.

Hamilton paced Betsy Layne in both rushing and receiving. He hauled in eight receptions for 133 yards and two TDs.

Defensively, Skyler Salisbury and Curtis Robinette ranked as Betsy Layne’s top two tacklers, finishing with 11 tackles and 10 tackles, respectively.

Betsy Layne remained in the win column on the road after defeating Morgan County 46-30 at home one week earlier.

The Bobcats are scheduled to host Magoffin County in Week 4 of the 2019 high school football season.
