ALLEN — Betsy Layne picked up its first win in the 2019 high school baseball season on Friday, beating visiting Jenkins 11-1 in six innings in a home opener.
With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 1-2.
Jenkins slipped to 0-2 with the loss.
Betsy Layne pitcher Cameron Kimbler earned the win. Kimbler surrendered one run on two hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Another pitcher, Sam Boyd, worked one inning on the mound for the Bobcats.
Jenkins pitcher Lyric Day suffered the loss. Day allowed three hits and five runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one. Two Jenkins pitchers, Hayden Fleming and Keegan Bentley, entered the game out of the bullpen, throwing three and two-thirds innings and two-thirds of an inning, respectively.

Zack Bentley and Josh Hall led Betsy Layne at the plate, providing two hits apiece.
The Bobcats excelled on the basepaths, recording nine steals. Bentley paced Betsy Layne on the bases, swiping three bags in the victory.
Matthew Dudleson drove in three runs for the Bobcats. Boyd, Dudleson, Paul Hall and Brady Robinson finished with one hit apiece.
Faring well defensively, Betsy Layne committed only one error.
Jenkins struggled defensively, committing three errors in the setback.
Betsy Layne is slated to visit Jenkins on May 11.
