Notes: Both Floyd Central and Magoffin County will be looking to halt a two-game losing skid and notch a first district win in Salyersville on Friday night.
The Jaguars and Hornets are set to meet in a Class 3A District 8 matchup.
Floyd Central (2-5 overall, 0-2 district) has dropped back-to-back games to district rivals Pike Central and Belfry. In addition to the Hawks and Pirates, Floyd Central has dropped games to Clay County, North Laurel and Hazard. The Jaguars have recorded wins over Knott Central and county nemesis Prestonsburg.
Quarterback Brant Potter leads the Jaguars. Potter, who replaced Caleb Hager under center following an injury earlier in the season, has completed 12 of 29 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Potter has rushed 41 times for 302 yards and three touchdowns.
Dalton Boyd leads Floyd Central in rushing. Boyd has rushed 101 times for 437 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively for Floyd Central, Noah Marcum has recorded a team-high 49 tackles. Following Marcum, Chad Bates has registered 45 tackles for the Jaguars.
Magoffin County is 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the district. The Hornets have dropped back-to-back district games to Belfry and Lawrence County.
Along with two of its district rivals, Magoffin County has suffered losses to Martin County and Breathitt County. The Hornets have notched wins over Knott County Central and Betsy Layne.
Through the first six games in the 2019 high school football season, opponents have outscored Magoffin County 228-141.
Senior running back Jaylon McDuffus and junior linebacker Mason Lovely are leading the Hornets in two key categories. McDuffus is averaging 126.8 rushing yards per game. Through six games, McDuffus has rushed 46 times for 761 yards and five touchdowns.
One of the state’s top linebackers, Lovely is averaging 23 tackles per game on the defensive side. In six games, Lovely has recorded a state-leading 138 total tackles.
