Floyd Central ranked first in preseason region poll

EASTERN — After finishing runner-up during each of its first two seasons, Floyd Central is ranked first in the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason 15th Region Top 5 Poll.

New head coach Darlene Moore is set to guide the Lady Jaguars. Previously, Moore guided the Allen Central volleyball program in the high school ranks.

For the second straight year, Floyd Central finished runner-up to Paintsville in the 15th Region in 2018. The Lady Jaguars, under the direction of then-head coach Alissa Young, captured the 2018 58th District Championship and finished the season 28-7.

The KVCA Preseason 15th Region Top 5 Poll, released on Thursday, features teams from four districts.

Reigning 15th Region All “A” Classic champion Pikeville is ranked second in the preseason region poll. The Lady Panthers finished 31-8 in 2018.

Back-to-back region champion Paintsville is ranked third heading into the 2019 season. The Lady Tigers compiled a 35-4 record in 2018.

Rounding out the preseason poll, East Ridge and Pike County Central are tied for fourth.

East Ridge showed improvement throughout the 2018 season, ending the campaign 25-11.

After an up and down campaign, Pike County Central paced a 17-14 record out of the 2018 season.

Volleyball teams from throughout the 15th Region are closing in on season-openers. Floyd Central is slated to host Letcher County Central for its season-opener on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
