Floyd Central’s Triplett named 15th Region Coach of the Year

EASTERN — Floyd Central head coach Justin Triplett has been named the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year. The 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association dubbed Triplett the coach of the year on Tuesday.

Triplett guided Floyd Central to the best record among 15th Region teams in the 2018/2019 girls’ high school basketball season. The Lady Jaguars ended the 2018/2019 girls’ high school basketball season 28-3. Floyd Central captured the 15th Region Class 2A title and the 58th District championship. Following a district championship-clinching victory over Lawrence County and a triumph over Magoffin County, Floyd Central reached the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Tournament Semifinals.

Magoffin County senior Kennedi Stacy was named the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year. Stacy, a guard who has signed with Transylvania University, averaged a double-double for the Lady Hornets during the 2018/2019 girls’ high school basketball season. Stacy led Magoffin County with a 21.6 points per game scoring average. In 32 games, Stacy scored 690 points.

Inside, Stacy averaged 11.9 rebounds per game for the Lady Hornets. Stacy pulled down a total of 381 rebounds during her senior season.

The 2018/2019 All-15th Region Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association Team is as follows: Anna Keeton (Paintsville), Alyssa Elswick (Shelby Valley), Katie Moore (Floyd Central), McKenzie Maynard (Belfry), Cassidy Mullins (Pike Central), Kirsten Cole-Williamson (Pikeville), Ashlee Belcher (Johnson Central), Elizabeth Williams (Paintsville), Madison Thompson (Sheldon Clark), Kaitlyn Keathley (Prestonsburg), Reesce Endicott (Prestonsburg), Lauren Preston (Floyd Central), Alivia Gearheart (Pikeville), Alaina Castle (Johnson Central), Kaylee Moore (Floyd Central).
