EASTERN - Floyd Central is slated to compete in one of the nation’s top high school volleyball tournaments. The Lady Jaguars are among the teams set to participate in the Rocky Top Classic in Sevierville, Tenn., Sept. 13-14.
The Rocky Top Classic, Sponsored by Phoenix Rising, will be held at the Sevierville Event Center. The largest high school volleyball tournament in the Southeastern United States, the Rocky Top Classic will run on a two‐day format, beginning late-afternoon on Friday, Sept. 13. The tournament will continue through Saturday, Sept. 14. Varsity, junior varsity and middle School teams will all play under one roof during the Rocky Top Classic.
All divisions will have formats designed to guarantee each team at least five matches. The tournament will feature a one- or two-wave format depending on the number of entries. Middle School teams will be playing on the second day of the tournament only.
Floyd Central will join high school volleyball teams from multiple states in the Rocky Top Classic.
Darlene Moore is poised to guide Floyd Central in her first season as the Lady Jaguars’ head coach. Floyd Central compiled a 28-7 overall record in 2018, capturing the 58th District championship. The Lady Jaguars finished as the 15th Region runner-up in 2018. Floyd Central has placed runner-up behind Paintsville in the 15th Region in each of its first two seasons.
The two-time defending 58th District champion, Floyd Central is scheduled to host its invitational tournament on September 21. Then, one week later, Floyd Central is due to travel to Lexington for another tournament.
Floyd Central will open its 2019 season in August.
