EASTERN — Floyd Central is set to visit Perry Central for its initial scrimmage in the 2019 high school football season.
The start time for the Floyd Central-Perry Central football scrimmage is 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
Perry Central, a member of Class 4A District 8, concluded the 2018 high school football season 8-3. The Commodores competed in Class 5A District 8 during the 2018 season. However, following a realignment move from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), Perry County Central dropped down a class. The Commodores fell to Southwestern in the opening round of the 2018 Class 5A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl.
Perry Central is forced with the tough task of replacing leading rusher Jayden Neace. The Commodores’ leader throughout the 2018 high school football season, Neace rushed for 277 times for 2,309 yards and 34 touchdowns.
Floyd Central ended the 2018 season 5-6. The Jaguars lost to longtime state powerhouse Boyle County in the opening round of the 2018 Class 3A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl.
Floyd Central lost leading rusher Josh Whitaker (998 yards, 11 touchdowns) to graduation but returns starting quarterback Caleb Hager. The productive Hager led Floyd Central in passing and ranking second in rushing for the Jaguars as a sophomore in 2018. During his sophomore season, Hager completed 51-of-129 passes for 869 yards and 10 touchdowns while throwing five interceptions. The versatile Hager rushed 69 times for 475 yards and six touchdowns during his second varsity season on the gridiron.
Floyd Central and Perry County Central did not meet during the 2018 high school football season.
Both the Jaguars and Commodores opened preseason practice shortly after the conclusion of the KHSAA Dead Period.
