Prestonsburg fell behind and couldn’t battle back as host Ashland pulled away to win 6-2 in the KHSAA Girls’ Soccer State Tournament on Thursday.
With the loss, 15th Region champion Prestonsburg ended its season 21-3-0.
Ashland, the title winner out of the bordering 16th Region, improved to 20-0-2 and advanced to the KHSAA Girls’ Soccer State Tournament semifinals with the win.
Abby Huff recorded a hat trick to lead Ashland to the victory.
In addition to Huff delivering three goals, Callie Johnson (one goal, two assists), Reilly McLain (one goal), Morgan Bradley (one goal, one assist) and Jess Brown (one assist) helped to pace the Kittens in the postseason win.
Goalkeeper Mikayla Martin led Ashland defensively, recording nine saves while allowing two goals.
Freshman Anna Burchett and senior Makayla Ousley, each of whom are KHSAA girls’ soccer state record holders, scored one goal apiece for the Lady Blackcats in the season-ending setback. Chipping in offensively for Prestonsburg, Chloe Collins dished out one assist.
