LOUISA — Much-improved Floyd Central held its own but couldn’t limit the host team as reigning champion Lawrence County eventually pulled away to win 8-3 in the 58th District Softball Tournament title game on Wednesday.
Lawrence County captured its second straight 58th District crown.
With the loss, Floyd Central dropped to 12-17.
Lawrence County improved to 26-9 with the win.
Both Lawrence County and Floyd Central advance to the 15th Region Softball Tournament. Floyd Central is poised to host the 15th Region Softball Tournament.
Lawrence County eighth-grader Allie Triplett picked up the pitching win in the 58th District Softball Tournament title game. Triplett managed to overcome more than one turbulent inning to claim the victory.
Floyd Central freshman Ashlee Bellamy suffered the loss. Bellamy fared well early before Lawrence County was able to produce at the plate.
Currently, Lawrence County owns the best record among 15th Region softball teams.
Along with Lawrence County and Floyd Central, teams headed to the 15th Region Softball Tournament are Johnson Central, Paintsville, Pikeville, Shelby Valley, Pike Central and Belfry. Pikeville is the reigning 15th Region softball champion.
