EASTERN — Back-to-back 58th District champion Floyd Central is among the teams set to compete in the girls’ basketball version of the 2019 WYMT Classic.
Along with Floyd Central, 15th Region rivals Shelby Valley and Pike Central are among the girls’ basketball teams slated to play in the 2019 WYMT Classic.
Heading into its third season, Floyd Central will make a first-ever appearance in the WYMT-hosted girls’ basketball tournament. The Floyd Central boys’ basketball team competed in the Mountain Classic in 2018.
The WYMT Classic is scheduled to tip off at Perry Central High School on Monday, Dec. 9.
A 15th Region title contender, Floyd County recorded 28 wins in its latest season. Floyd Central head coach Justin Triplett was named the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year following the 2018/2019 season. The 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association dubbed Triplett the coach of the year.
Triplett guided Floyd Central to the best record among 15th Region teams in the 2018/2019 girls’ high school basketball season. The Lady Jaguars ended the 2018/2019 girls’ high school basketball season 28-3. Floyd Central captured the 15th Region Class 2A title and the 58th District championship. Following a district championship-clinching victory over Lawrence County and a triumph over Magoffin County, Floyd Central reached the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Tournament semifinals.
Prior to the Kentucky Athletic Association Dead Period, which concluded Tuesday night, Floyd Central was competing in its summer season.
Floyd Central will finalize and release its 2019/2020 girls’ basketball schedule at a later date.
The Lady Jaguars will open preseason practice in mid-October.
