Notes: The Floyd Central Jaguars will be looking to halt a two-game losing skid when the Sheldon Clark Cardinals visit for a Class 3A District 6 football game on Friday night.
Floyd Central has dropped back-to-back games to district rivals Pike Central and Belfry. The Jaguars are 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the district. Floyd Central has notched wins over Harlan, Betsy Layne, Breathitt County and Prestonsburg. In addition to its two district losses, Floyd Central dropped a non-district game to Lynn Camp earlier in the season.
Through seven games, Floyd Central has outscored opponents 231-170.
Senior running back Josh Whitaker continues to lead the Jaguars. Seven games into the 2018 high school football season, Whitaker has rushed 107 times for 701 yards and nine TDs.
Sophomore quarterback Caleb Hager leads Floyd Central through the air. Hager has completed 26 of 85 passes for 673 yards and nine TDs while throwing four interceptions.
Ethan Smith-Mills paces Floyd Central in the receiving column. Smith-Mills has hauled in 15 receptions for 350 yards and five TDs.
In only four games, Brady Conn has hauled in six receptions for 125 yards and two TDs for the Jaguars.
Defensively for Floyd Central, Brady Jones has posted a team-high 59 tackles.
Sheldon Clark is 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the district. The Cardinals have posted wins over Betsy Layne and East Ridge. Sheldon Clark has dropped games to Knott County Central, Phelps, Mt. View (W.Va.), Belfry and Lawrence County. Through seven games, opponents have outscored the Cardinals 197-112.
Senior quarterback Brandon Arledge has settled in and helps to lead the Cardinals. Junior Drake Muncy has emerged as Arledge’s top target.
