Notes: Prestonsburg is set to host current frontrunner West Carter for a Class 2A District 8 football game on Friday night.

The Blackcats are due back on the field after suffering a lopsided loss to Shelby Valley in Week 7.

Prestonsburg is 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Class 2A District 8.

West Carter is 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the district.

Junior quarterback Brayden Slone continues to lead the Blackcats. Slone has completed 29 of 69 passes for 392 yards and three touchdowns while throwing five interceptions. On the ground, Slone has rushed 40 times for 291 yards and seven touchdowns.

Carter Akers paces Prestonsburg in the rushing column. Akers has rushed 53 times for 308 yards and two touchdowns.

John Rose, Samuel Kelly, Kaleb Jarvis and Eric Armstrong have also contributed on the ground and scored rushing touchdowns for the Blackcats.

Owen Greene has emerged as Prestonsburg’s leading receiver. Greene has hauled in nine receptions for 131 yards.

Adam Blair has been on the receiving end of two touchdown pass receptions for the Blackcats while John Rose and Erica Armstrong have hauled in one scoring catch apiece.

Akers, Kelly, Nathan McGuire, Austin Doney and Braxton Collins combine to lead Prestonsburg defensively.

West Carter is on a three-game winning streak. The Comets’ current streak includes victories over Boyd County, reigning district Class 2A District 8 champion Shelby Valley and Bath County.

Through six games, West Carter has outscored opponents 172-80.

The Comets’ offensive attack is nearly balanced.

Junior quarterback Orry Perry leads the Comets. Perry has completed 67 of 130 passes for 774 yards and seven touchdowns. The West Carter quarterback has thrown four interceptions.

Nine different West Carter receivers have hauled in at least one pass.

Leetavious Cline leads West Carter on the ground. Cline has rushed 73 times for 538 yards and eight touchdowns.

Tristen Jordan leads the West Carter defensive unit with a team-high 56 tackles.

Prestonsburg and West Carter did mot meet during the 2018 high school football season.

The most productive offensive player for Prestonsburg, Slone leads his team through the air. On the ground, Slone ranks second in rushing for the Blackcats.

For West Carter, junior running back/defensive back Leetavious Cline.

One of the most underrated players in Class 2A, Cline leads West Carter in rushing and is a key defensive player as well. Cline has recorded two interceptions and 18 tackles for the Comets.
